Uniting us all under one sky, Media Art Xploration (MAX) is proud to present MAX 2019: A Space Festival with an array of world class artists, scientists, and artist-engineers in some of San Francisco’s most renowned venues.
Over three days of programming at the Exploratorium, California Academy of Sciences, Z Space, and SF Playhouse with works small and large, MAX will explore the new space age, interrogate the extraordinary scientific advances in this field and illuminate the impact on our lives. Bringing together musicians, theater performers, artist-engineers, conceptual artists and drag queens, whose charge for the festival is to provide an immersive, educational and entertaining experience at the intersection of live arts and scientific advancement.

COLLABORATOR PROFILE: TYE OLSON
SF’s drag sweetheart, Tye, was born and raised in MN. Currently residing in SF by way of LA. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2005, Tye booked the lead role in Watercolors, in which he starred opposite Karen Black and Greg Louganis. He took home Best Actor three times for the role. Tye furthered his acting career in films such as Brother’s War and Tru Loved and dabbled in TV with Showtime’s United States of Tara and Japan’s popular TV show World’s Most Astonishing News. He can also be seen in music videos alongside Katy Perry, Bring Me the Horizon, The Veronicas, Fall Out Boy, and Blue October.
Tye’s interests include drag, cycling, running, yoga, cooking, outdoors and traveling with friends. He has spent many years volunteering much of his time raising awareness for HIV/AIDS through fundraisers, documentaries and clinical studies.

Take fashion into the 4th dimension!
Watch these celestial looks come to life with augmented reality. Artist Andrea Lauer and Astrophysicist Janna Levin use fashion as a medium to communicate the story of the universe, and the mysteries of Spacetime.
COLLABORATOR PROFILES
ANDREA LAUER
Andrea Lauer is a costume/set designer and fashion stylist. Recent credits include Richard The II at The Old Globe, Lovely Rita, a multimedia event in celebration of the Beatles 50th release of Sgt. Peppers, and A Chorus Line at the MUNY. Her work has been seen on Broadway (American Idiot, Bring it On), around the country and internationally. Working as a stylist for various artists, commercials, and publications, her work can be seen in Rolling Stone, Vogue, Interview, OUT Magazine, The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, The Tony Awards, red carpet events, and music videos.
JANNA LEVIN
Janna Levin is the Tow Professor of physics and astronomy at Barnard College of Columbia University and has contributed to an understanding of black holes, the cosmology of extra dimensions, and gravitational waves in the shape of spacetime. She is also director of sciences at Pioneer Works. She was recently named a Guggenheim Fellow. Her latest book, Black Hole Blues and Other Songs from Outer Space, is the inside story on the discovery of the century: the sound of spacetime ringing from the collision of two black holes over a billion years ago.

EDGAR MEDINA
Edgar Medina originals have shown across the country at galleries in Chicago, New Orleans, Santa Fe and Houston. Medina has been a featured artist at Art Chicago, The Los Angeles Art Show, Art Santa Fe and Red Dot Miami. Last year, Edgar Medina originals helped to raise a substantial amount for Houston area charities including American Cancer Society, MDA, Victory Houston –Cattle Barron’s Ball, Foundation for Teen Health / Baylor Medina, JDRF and Tahirih Justice Center. This year, Edgar has had the honor of being a part of Artist INC Houston, a mentorship program with Fresh Arts Houston. For the last eight weeks, Edgar has been working with local artists and mentors, sharing their mutual experiences and learning from each other.
