Youth Arts Teaching Artist

Word for Word/Youth Arts at Z Space is a unique arts education program that exposes hundreds of Bay Area students annually to the joys of language and theatre. Teaching artists lead students in transforming fiction or poetry into staged performances in the Word for Word style. By helping youth become better listeners, speakers, and readers, Youth Arts instills a love of language and reading, enhances performance skills, and bolsters confidence and self-esteem in the classroom and beyond.

We are currently hiring Teaching Artists who can teach Text Analysis and Theatre using the Word for Word Technique [for 7th and 8th grade English Language Learners (ELLs), 8th grade English Language Arts (ELA) students, and 10th grade English students] and a Visual Artist to lead a Mural/Set Design project (for 6th grade ELA students).


HOUSE MANAGER

Paid position at $19/hour. House Managers require availability on evenings and weekends, with occasional weekdays for private and special events. House Managers have direct contact with Z Space patrons and supporters. Some responsibilities include: opening and closing the theater, maintaining a clean atmosphere in all public areas of the theater, overseeing the stuffing and distribution of programs, and coordinating with the box office agent and house technician. The ideal candidate will have hospitality experience, ensure that all guests receive the highest level of customer service at all performances and events, and take pride in their work. House Managers will be required to enforce the Z Space Safety Protocols with everyone entering the building for a performance. BOX OFFICE AGENT

Paid position at $19/hour. Box Office Agents are forward facing employees, have direct contact with Z Space patrons and supporters, and represent the organization. Some responsibilities include: using Ovation ticketing software to sell, exchange, and return tickets for all performances sold through the box office; handling of cash, check, and credit card transactions; and filing ticket orders and preparing tickets for will call. Candidates must be friendly, courteous, neat, and prompt, and have the ability to manage stress in a fast paced environment and problem solve. Z Space Box Office Agents ensure that all guests receive the highest level of customer service at all performances and events, and take pride in their work. Z Space Box Office Agents will be required to assist the House Manager in enforcing the Z Space Safety Protocols with everyone entering the building for a performance. BARTENDER

Paid position at $18/hour plus tips. Bartenders should have a minimum 1-year of bartending, restaurant, or hospitality experience. They are responsible for creating and maintaining an accurate account of concession inventory and sales records, serving drink products to patrons, maintaining the concessions area, and handling cash and card transactions. Z Bartenders are forward facing employees, have direct contact with Z Space patrons and supporters, and represent the organization. HOUSE TECHNICIANS

House techs at Z Space requires in-depth knowledge of theatrical lighting equipment and practices, basic set-up and operation of sound systems, and basic QLab programming. House Tech calls may involves physical labor, lifting up to 50lbs, working at grid height (23'6") on ladders and/or motorized work platforms. House Techs will become familiar with Z Space house operations, rules and guidelines to serve as stewards of the venue and hosts for productions. House Technician calls range from 4-hour minimum to multi-week productions and occasional OT/DT depending on the production schedule. Z Space House Technicians are employees of Z Space.
