Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Salon
Monday, February 25, 2019
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Z Space
The Z community and its reflection of a powerful collective of social practice artists and audiences in the Bay Area can be an amazing force for change. The artists we support, the innovative work we help develop, and the risk we embrace as a community fosters the brave spaces essential for the sometimes hard but very necessary conversations we need to have to effect meaningful change in how we treat each other onstage and off.
Z Space managing Director Shafer Mazow and Z Space Board member Jenny Johnston are expanding Z’s involvement in conversations that further the equity, diversity, and inclusion (“EDI”) work being done by so many Bay Area artists and organizations, and offering Z Space as a community resource and gathering place for collective visioning and action.
This first salon, the first in a series, will be held Monday, February 25th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Z Space lobby. The evening will include an overview of some current EDI approaches and a facilitated large group conversation led by Simone Hill, a diversity and inclusion strategist who currently leads execution of EDI initiatives at Omidyar Network.
Our goals for this first salon are to:
Offer Z Space as a brave community space for ongoing dialogue about equity, diversity, and inclusion
Explore frameworks and best practices used by other fields in EDI efforts
Share tools for setting norms and expectations in effective community work
Provide tangible learning points for attendees to use in personal action plans
Co-create collective definitions of EDI
Provide forum for questions, reflections, and discussion of collective vision for what comes next
We recognize and appreciate the important work many of you are already doing and hope this salon series can add to the dialogue. All are welcome so please spread the word!
