The Z community and its reflection of a powerful collective of social practice artists and audiences in the Bay Area can be an amazing force for change. The artists we support, the innovative work we help develop, and the risk we embrace as a community fosters the brave spaces essential for the sometimes hard but very necessary conversations we need to have to effect meaningful change in how we treat each other onstage and off.
Z Space Managing Director Shafer Mazow and Z Space Board member Jenny Johnston are expanding Z’s involvement in conversations that further the equity, diversity, and inclusion (“EDI”) work being done by so many Bay Area artists and organizations, and offering Z Space as a community resource and gathering place for collective visioning and action.
What is the Brave Space you want to see? How can we create it? How can we support it and each other? Let's talk about it...
For this second installment of the series, the intension is to talk about brave spaces, using the article From Safe Spaces to Brave Spaces as a starting point for an open dialogue. This article speaks to how we can be courageous and caring with each other while effecting real change.
