Sharp & Fine presents

A Detective Story

October 18 - 20
on Z Space’s Steindler Stage

A Detective Story is Sharp & Fine’s newest “play for dance,” bringing together visually stunning storytelling, exuberant choreography, and live music to turn the classic formula of the detective genre inside out. Playing with the well-worn tropes of mystery stories—trench coats, confessions, typewriters, red herrings—plus a dose of Sharp & Fine’s playful audience instruction, A Detective Story follows a detective as her investigation of a missing person turns into a surreal and deeply human examination of the choices we make for the people and things we love.

About Sharp & Fine

Sharp & Fine is a San Francisco-based organization co-directed by sisters Megan and Shannon Kurashige. We create devised dance theater experiences that use storytelling to provoke deep feeling and instigate human connection. We believe that telling and receiving a story are potent acts of shared imagination that move both audience and performer toward empathy and care. Our work combines exuberant choreography, spoken text, live music, surreal imagery, and a healthy dose of absurdity.

We center collaborative curiosity in our creative processes and make work through extended periods of research and development that support individual and collective play and experimentation.
