Liss Fain Dance and Z Space co-present

Open Time

Five women—four dancers and an actor—move through the four rooms and passageways of this installation fusing dance, text, architectural environment, and sound score.

September 27 - 29
on Z Space’s Steindler Stage

“Open Time came after a year of profound change. The stillness, suspense and resurgence I experienced during this time became the foundation of the work.  As I was looking for movement and words, I came across an interview with poet Louise Glück talking about her time between writing projects, the stillness, endings, beginnings. She describes waiting, not knowing, mining the world around for new ideas. Her words struck me, anchored my ideas.

The piece that’s evolved surprises me. It’s about how we frame our perceptions and our lives; how we live in our imagination and the world. Woven into the work are the stories and perspectives of all the artists—my own, the dancers, actor, installation designer, composer, and costume designer.”

Liss Fain Dance creates evening-length performance installations that express our personal responses to the events that shape our lives. Dance is the focal point inside striking installation and sound environments that encompass the performers and audience. Text, spoken by an actor and integrated into the score and performance, adds a cadence and a point of connection with the non-narrative movement.
