SUBSPACE
Formalized in 2018, our Subspace program provides heavily subsidized or free space and support to artists who cannot afford our non-profit rental rates. Through Subspace, Z Space prioritizes independent producers and small arts organizations that:
Are part of Z Space’s existing networks of artists and organizations AND those brand new to us.
Clearly articulate values that highlight equity and sharing resources with their community.
Demonstrate artistic risk, focus on process over product, or daring content.
Serve and are led by historically marginalized individuals.
Since its inception, Subspace has given away almost $350,000 to over 30 individual artists and/or arts organizations (and counting!). Subsidies have been supported by the Fleishhacker Foundation, the Sam Mazza Foundation, the Andrew Mellon Foundation, the Zellerbach Family Foundation, and contributions from individual donors.
