The Acme Corporation’s
The Institute for Counterfeit Memory:
A Play in a Box
by Lola B. Pierson
Finally a live play that you can experience in your room, not on Zoom!
** Thanks for playing with us! Tickets went on sale March 17, 2021 and boxes were delivered April 2-4. Tickets are no longer on sale for this event. **
The Acme Corporation, Baltimore’s premiere experimental theatre company, has created a new play in a box that you can experience at home. The piece asks us to imagine what we’ve missed over the past year, and to turn our attention to what’s happening in front of us. Z Space is presenting this unique piece by thoughtfully assembling 150 boxes in Z Below and delivering them in person to local audiences’ homes in April 2021. This is a special experience for local audiences in San Francisco and Alameda County (or out-of-county residents willing to pick up their boxes from Z Space), acknowledging both the intimacy and geography of live theater.
“…Puzzle pieces of a play you can never see. It’s the job of the Institute, it seems, to provide the counterfeit memories of your having seen it, and to plant in your mind suggestions of sensations and idle thoughts that might have occurred to you, had you actually been watching a show in person, in the dark.”

HOW THIS ALL WORKS…
You purchase a ticket. You receive a confirmation email with a survey. You take the survey. On April 2-4, your play in a box arrives at your home (or you pick it up at Z). Now you have a play in a box! Whenever you are in the mood to “watch” the “play,” you sit down in a nice room and open the box. Inside the box, you will find a small mp3 player, cue cards, and special memory-inducing props. You won’t need anything else (no computer, no Zoom, no nothing). Enjoy the play.
