Liss Fain Dance presents
Here. Take It
An Installation work
November 11-13 on Z Space’s Steindler Stage
Here.Take It is a very personal work about course corrections, crossing through our internal boundaries. The piece grew from many pre-dawn visits Liss Fain made to Pierce Point Ranch, Point Reyes, watching the dark and the fog disappear. Fain began creating movement there, high up between the ocean and the bay, in solitude, walking through the rough grasses, lumpy ground, deserted ranch buildings. In the studio, the company developed the ideas and movement with energetic cohesion. The still and video projections in the performance are shot at Pierce Point Ranch.
The audience and performers are surrounded by Matthew Antaky's evocative installation environment. They enter this world with us. Standing or seated, the audience walks at will during the performance, experiencing the work from multiple perspectives and close to the six dancers and actor.
Here. Take It brings together choreographer Liss Fain with dancers—Allegra Bautista, Bethany Mitchell, Katherine Neumann, Moscelyne ParkeHarrison, Isabel Rosenstock, Isabel Umali—actor Florentina Mocanu, installation designer Matthew Antaky, composer Dan Wool, and costume designer Tess Lane. Liss Fain Dance’s immersive performance installations express our multi-layered, personal responses to the events that shape our lives.
Liss Fain Dance’s installation pieces are a synthesis of dance, literature, music, and visual design. Fain’s choreography—highly physical, emotionally resonant, non-narrative—fuses forceful energy and kinetic precision. The carefully chosen text accentuates the personal and emotional qualities of the movement and the individual dancers. Fain’s artistic partners in the work are the dancers, installation designer, composer, actor and costume designer.
