The Living Earth Show & Post:Ballet present
Do Be
August 4 - 6, 2016 on Z Space's Main Stage
When Post:Ballet and The Living Earth Show, two of the most exciting young arts organizations in the country, set out to build a collaborative production, we decided that the largest and most ambitious thing we could make together was a new reality. We built a universe together, and then imagined what the music and dance would look like within it. That universe couples absurdity and silliness with gloom and chaos to put a magnifying glass to the things we take for granted in our own lives.
Performed live by The Living Earth Show (electric guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andy Meyerson), the music has been written specifically for this production by some of the most innovative and acclaimed composers in the world: Christopher Cerrone, Jacob Cooper, Nicole Lizée, Anna Meredith, and Jonathan Pfeffer. Post’s dynamic ensemble of modern ballet dancers, led by artistic director and choreographer Robert Dekkers, craft an experience that challenges conventions of the form and the very act of participating in artistic consumption. The collaborators wanted to see how far we could push ourselves, and in the process, accidentally made something larger, more intimate, and more uncomfortable than we thought possible. The culmination of three years of collaboration, Do Be is our grandest offering to the city we call home.
Additional collaborating artists include Christian Squires (costume design), Robby Gilson (video design), Jim French (lighting design), Brenden Blaine Darby (culinary design), and Dennis Aman (installation/sound design).
Total Running Time: 95 minutes, including one 20 minute intermission
