Ailbhe Doherty
Originally from Galway, Ireland, Ailbhe relocated to San Francisco 4 years ago. Before coming to the states she studied at the International College of Musical Theatre in Belfast. From a young age Ailbhe has performed on stages across Ireland including the Belfast Grand Opera House and the Helix Theater Dublin. Past credits in the bay area include ‘Cathy’ in The last 5 years (SCP) ‘Rhoda’ in White Christmas (CMT) and currently ‘Vicki’ in ‘Everybodys Talking About Jamie’ (ROL).
John Flanagan
Flan’s happy to be back on stage with the Word for Word ensemble after having been seen in the company’s Angel Face. He’s also performed with Marin Theatre Company, the Magic Theatre, San Jose Stage, San Jose Rep, Center Rep, Campo Santo, Central Works, Shotgun Players, 3 Girls Theatre, the Fifth Floor, and more. Mr. Flanagan has a principal role in the indie film, You’ll Lose a Good Thing, which is currently in post production. Slainte!
Stephanie Hunt
Stephanie Hunt (Core Company Member of Word for Word) is an actor, director, and teacher. Stephanie has acted in over a dozen stories with Word for Word, including playing Lady Gregory in Colm Tóibín’s Silence, Lizzie Borden in Angela Carter’s Fall River Axe Murders, and the Speedometer in Upton Sinclair’s Oil! For Word for Word, she directed Edward P. Jones’ short story All Aunt Hagar’s Children, Tobias Wolff’s Bullet in the Brain and Lady’s Dream, as well as Cornell Woolrich’s noir thriller Angel Face. She has acted throughout the Bay Area at the Aurora Theatre, the Magic Theatre, Campo Santo, Industrial Strength, and the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. She teaches acting at the University of San Francisco and at Stanford University. She is grateful to the Core Company, this cast and crew, and the Z Space for the artistic community of Word for Word.
Joel Mullennix
Joel Mullennix is happy and proud to be a core company member and longtime collaborator with Word for Word. He has acted in many Word for Word productions such as The Blues I’m Playing by Langston Hughes, Rose Johnny by Barbara Kingsolver, and All Aunt Hagar’s Children by Edward P. Jones. Other favorite roles include Les in East by Steven Berkoff, Christy Mahon in The Playboy of the Western World by J. M. Synge, and Sloane in Joe Orton’s Entertaining Mr. Sloane. Joel has also directed a number of Word For Word’s most successful productions, including Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, More Stories by Tobias Wolff, Stories by Alice Munro, and Which Is More Than I Can Say About Some People by Lorrie Moore, as well the Word for Word style production of Family Alchemy, Stories by Bernard Malamud and Grace Paley for A Traveling Jewish Theatre.
Monica Rose Slater
Monica Rose Slater is a Brazilian-American, singer-actor-educator. Since her cross-country move from Virginia to SF in 2021, Monica has performed with 42nd Street Moon (She Loves Me, Falsettos), Lamplighters (Mystery of Edwin Drood, Iolanthe) Berkeley Playhouse (Cinderella), Pocket Opera (Traviata), Foothills MT (Violet), and Cinnabar (Sound of Music). She is delighted to be making her Word For Word debut! Coming up, she will return to Cinnabar as Laurey in Oklahoma. Monica has an MM from San Francisco Conservatory and BM from James Madison University. Alongside her theatrical career, Monica teaches private voice and teaches at Music Education for Everyone. In her free time, you’ll find Monica rollerblading, crafting with whatever she can find, painting exclusively impressionistic landscapes, reading historical fiction, writing creative non-fiction, and cooking. Ryan Tasker
Ryan Tasker is a Word for Word Core Company member and has appeared in their productions of Citizen, Retablos, You Know When the Men Are Gone, and Three on a Party. He has also acted and directed for the Off the Page series, with some favorites being Joan Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem and Chekhov's The Lady With the Dog. He has also worked with Marin Theatre Company, American Conservatory Theater, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Aurora Theatre Company, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, Shotgun Players, and the Livermore Shakespeare Festival, among others.
